The cricket section got away to a good start due to the fact that we inherited an almost complete cricket team which from 1960 till 1966 was known to many as the East Tamaki Social Club and fortunately most of these fellows were very active although more aged members of the Papatoetoe Cosmopolitan Club today.

We were fortunate that when the Club opened its doors in January 1968 there were a considerable number of members who had been playing bowls elsewhere for some years. Consequently, a committee was formed almost immediately and the Indoor Bowls Section became established. |

This section of the Club was started by three wise men - Warren Bartleft, Bert Rennie and Jack Chappell. Bert Rennie was the first Convenor followed by Ray Goldfinch, Barry Allpress, Dick Carter, Ray Riggs, Peter Fisken and others. This Section has had many highs and lows from Xmas tournaments at Huntly with 120 members enjoying the after match barbecues to music by Alan Gallagher to some tournaments with only about 20 members participating.

The Table Tennis Section drew its first breath like most other Sections over a few handles in early 1977. Over the first winter, time was spent trying to sort out if the Section had a real future and Thursday nights became Table Tennis night upstairs. It started off with initial enthusiasm and a monthly Mixed Tournament was established. |
